Well Suited

Head to Toe: Tee, Hollister (hand-me-down); Shorts, Forever 21 (hand-me-down); Oxfords, Forever 21; Bag, Rue 21; Bracelets, DIY and Urban Outfitters; Scarf, American Eagle (Gift).

I needed something appropriate for a warm day but fit for a bit of manual labor on Thursday. I thought my oxfords and dress-shorts were the ideal option. The scarf was a good touch for the chillier morning and evening, now that the height of summer is behind us.

I'm so excited for a long weekend. I had a half day at work today and was even able to kick off the break with a trip to the beach. I'm hoping to soak up some sun and get the rest of summer out of my system. I'll be pumpkin spice latte ready by Tuesday!

That blur would be my silly dog, Montague (aka Monti).
Thanks to my mamma for snapping these photos.

Happy Birthday New England Romance!

Happy Birthday New England Romance! You are one year old today. Above, see snapshots from my first few posts...I can't believe how much has changed since then. I went from being a busy college student to a working woman, from writing papers to writing magazine articles. Looking back through my posts, I realize I have had a successful, fulfilling year. I started my blog to motivate myself to be creative with style, and to share my love of fashion with the e-world. I remember when I was celebrating having 10 followers, and now I am celebrating over 200. One thing I didn't expect to gain was interaction with so many other bloggers and fashionistas who share my interests. So thanks for your support, and here's to another year of stylish living!

Short Story

Head to Toe: Blouse, Marshall's; Shorts, Forever 21; Flats, Vince Camuto via Marshall's; Backpack, Aldo; Bracelets, DIY; Necklace, Charlotte Russe.

During a serious outfit crisis last night (after two days of jeans and leggings, I knew I needed something bloggable), I turned to blogs and Pinterest for a little guidance. A common denominator I noticed was chic shorts. Yes, Fall is coming and we're excited to wear oxfords and burnt orange, but I think we'll all miss the easy comfort that is a good pair of shorts. So I layered these lacy staples with longer sleeves and my new favorite flats. As I was walking from the train to work, I was mulling over how it would probably be the last time I wore these this year, but then I remembered my Fall favorite, tights! Mentally styling these with a gray pair and tan flats...

So Long Sweet Summer

Head to Toe: Dress, Thrifted; Sweater, American Eagle (Gift); Shoes, Marshall's; Bracelets, DIY; Necklace, American Eagle (Gift).

These past few weeks I've been squeezing out all that is left of summer...and its wardrobe. Though I will be super excited to wear boots, tights and scarves in Autumn shades after Labor Day, I'm sad to see the temps get cooler and days get shorter. I also know I'll be missing flowy skirts and maxi's come September so I made a point to avoid jeans a few days this week and maximize my closet's offerings. But browsing through my Instagram, I'm reminded that I've had an awesome August chockful of sunny adventures.

Late Summer Casual

Head to Toe: (First outfit) Blouse, Marshall's; Jeans, Loft; Shades, Kenneth Cole via Marshall's; Bag, Flea Market; Flats, Vince Camuto via Marshall's. (Second outfit) Top,Hollister (hand-me-down); Scarf, American Eagle (Gift); Jeans, Thrifted; Shades, Thrifted; Flats, Vince Camuto via Marshall's; Bag, Flea Market.

This is one of my favorite looks of the moment (being that I rocked it every day this week), and I'm dubbing it "late summer casual." The formula? Skinny jeans, flats, a loose top, plus accessories. It's comfy and classic,  and cool enough for a warm day without showing much skin. Ah, August, you are fleeting...

On another note, one of my good friends and first college roomie, Sam, has put her creative talent to good use and launched an awesome DIY blog, DIY Huntress. I've just added her first two posts to my to-do list. Go check it out and start crafting!

Pink, Please

Head to Toe: Top, Marshall's; Pants, Old Navy; Sandals, TJ Maxx; Watch, Guess (Gift).

Comfort was the name of the game as my day required a TON of walking. Comfy sandals and jeans were perfect, while my (new) sheer button down kept it professional. I have vowed to only make purchases that can transition to fall, so I'm imagining this blouse paired with jeans and high boots, or with a chunky scarf, or tucked into a wool skirt, or under a sweater...

Summer Revival

Head to Toe: Tank, Forever 21; Crochet top, Delia's; Jeans, Marshall's; Moccasins; Minnetonkas (Gift); Bag, Rue 21; Bracelets, DIY; Necklace, American Eagle (Gift); Shades, Kenneth Cole via Marshall's.

I'm rocking some hippie-chic green for a casual Friday. Usually, around this time of year I am itching for Fall. "Back to school" always meant new, new, new (and Pumpkin Spice Lattes). Without looking forward to a new semester, I'm clinging to the warmth and sunlight that is summer. I guess I will take solace in PSL's and new boots. I'm craving a flat leather riding boot...like one of the luscious styles below.

City Slicker

Head to Toe: Top, Forever 21; Skirt, Forever 21; Bag, Rue 21; Heels, Target.

I wore this outfit for a work trip to NYC yesterday. This longer-in-the-back skirt was a clearance rack steal, but its length required heels to avoid looking Grandma-chic. My new shoes were comfy enough to withstand a bit of walking...They must have made me look like a local because people were stopping me for directions all day. "Sorry, no clue!"
