Preperations

Head to Toe: Blouse, Thrifted; Sweater, Gap; Skirt, BCBG; Tights, H&M; Boots, Frye.

Tomorrow is my last day of the work week, as I hope it is for most (unless you're working the midnight shift on black Friday?). I was actually super productive this evening and prepped several Thanksgiving sides, so I'm feeling a little less stressed about the holiday. ((FYI: said cute/easy salad recipe is not quite so easy when it requires a peeled/cored/chopped butternut squash.))
Safe travels to all of those who are hitting the road tomorrow!
Congrats to Madara for winning the Everbuying.com giveaway! You'll be hearing from me via email.

Entrenched

Head to Toe: Dress, Loft; Scarf, H&M; Trench, Banana Republic; Boots, Frye.

Happy Sunday! I'm enjoying a relaxing weekend and am excited for a short week and (yay!) Thanksgiving. Mammacita and I will be cooking the usual - turkey, pumpkin pie, sweet potatos - along with a few new and different recipes this year. I'm kind of jealous that I'm not Jewish because Thanksgivukkah sounds pretty awesome. Did you know that the calendar-collision won't happen again until the year 79811? I  may just make some latkes with my turkey to honor this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Big Sweater, Small Pants

Head to Toe: Sweater, PacSun; Jeggings, Thrifted; Booties, Marshall's.

Proportioning 101: When you have to do squats to make your pants sort-of fit, best opt for a baggy sweater. The result is my trendy, cozy, easy, semi-appropriate-for-work fall outfit. Pull unwashed hair into a sock bun, and throw on a long dress coat in the case that you need to look presentable. That, my friends, is getting dressed for a sleep-deprived Tuesday. Happy Friday!

Lightly Layered

Head to Toe: Chambray blouse, Marshall's; Cardigan, Gap; Necklace, American Eagle; Bag, Thrifted; Skirt, Loft; Heels, Payless.

Please forgive any type-o's or nonsensical ramblings in this post. After a decidedly-lazy weekend I've spent the former part of this week catching up on freelance work and exercise (a much-needed detox from junk food). I'm pretty pooped, but after all, tomorrow is hump day. For now, I'm going to ignore the laundry piling up and the Thanksgiving menu awaiting planning and focus on getting dressed in the morning. Ideas, anyone??
Photos by the hubby, whose title suggestions for this post included "Mrs. Rogers" and "Quirky and Dorky". Thanks.

Serendipity

Head to Toe: Dress and tights, Marshall's; Blazer, H&M; Heels, Vince Camuto.

Though it sat in my closet with tags for quite some time, I knew the perfect event would come up that I could rock this color-blocked dress to. It did this past Wednesday, when I was lucky enough to snag an invite to Serendipity Magazine's Girl's Night Out. The night included a fashion show, tons of shopping and of course delicious food and cocktails, all to benefit Canary Kids, a project aimed at educating the public about chronic illness in children. The night of fashion was right up my alley...That's Miss Connecticut in the bottom left!
Hope everyone's weekend was as relaxing as mine. Happy Monday funday!

These Boots Are Made For...

Head to Toe: Dress, Jessica Simpson; Jacket, Marshall's; Boots, Call it Spring.

I had originally planned this outfit with heels, but when I woke up to snow falling I decided my combat boots would be a  better fit. Turns out, they look awesome with the dress and totally freshen up the ensemble.  Better yet, this look was perfect for work and happy hour afterwards. Thankfully, the snow didn't stick and warmer temps are in the forecast for the weekend. High five for Friday!

Peaked

Head to Toe: Sweater, Gap; Pants, Loft; Scarf, H&M; Jacket, American Eagle; Booties, Target.

This post confirms it: The autumn leaves are past their peak. When did fall come and go? First snowflakes came down yesterday morning and the days have been colder and grayer. I am both excited for the onslaught of holiday cheer and terrified for the coming of holiday bills. For now, I'm saving like crazy and taking comfort in the fact that my family will still love me if I give them all matching crochet headbands for Christmas.

Yalie

Head to Toe: Chambray top, Marshall's; Sweater, Old Navy; Skinnies, J. Crew; Boots, Call it Spring.

My new combat boots (anniversary gift from the guy below) have become my weekend favorites. They're super comfy and perfect for my usual Saturday leggings-and-sweater combo. Today I decided to get a little more put together for a morning in New Haven . We took a trip to the Apple Store so I could replace my recently-shattered iPhone (FYI, a super cute case is not always worth it). It turned out to be the perfect November morning so Mackenzie and I grabbed coffee from our favorite spot and walked around for one more look at the leaf-changing campus. With more leaves on the ground than on the trees, it's beginning to look a lot more wintry in New England, but I'm okay with it... Are those Christmas bells I hear?
My photographer didn't want to be on the blog but he was too swagged out not to make an appearance.

The 80s Strikes Back

Head to Toe: Pants, Marshall's; Sweater, Gap; Heels, Target; iPad Case, Amazon.

Happy Friday fashionistas! I got these pants over the summer and never got around to wearing them. Thankfully, paired with a chunky wool sweater they are perfect for fall. There's been a lot of buzz around my office about how awesome the 80's were (comparing teased hairstyles included). Since I wasn't around to enjoy the decade, I'll have to pay homage with these MC Hammer harem pants.

Recessionista

Head to Toe: Jacket, Marshall's; Scarf, Gap; Slacks, Loft; Heels, Target; iPad Clutch, Amazon.

Hey all! I meant to post yesterday, but my whole "take-pictures-in-the-morning-because-it's-dark-early" thing didn't really start out on the right foot. Not to worry, I was up on time today! As much as I love dresses and skirts, nothing beats the comfort of pants, even in a power-suit work look. Fall layering allows for a ton of mixing and matching, which is going to come in handy as I'm embarking on another shopping fast. I'm calling it "No-Shop November". Here's why I'm forgoing the mall this month:

  1. No-Shave November is simply not an option
  2. I have a ton of clothes I haven't worn in eons, and more yet that still have the tags.
  3. I bought a car! It arrives at the end of the month, as do my payments, so I need to save, save, save.
Any takers on joining this recessionista?
